ACCGov has contracted with 1st Step to operate a sanctioned homeless encampment through its non-profit, 1st Step. The encampment provides a legal, low-barrier location for homeless individuals to camp and connects residents with various services and resources. We offer a variety of programs to help our homeless individuals get back on their feet. From job training to mental health counseling, we provide the resources and support necessary to allow individual to reach their goals.

On December 17, 2022, Charles Hardy & 1st Step Staff dedicated over 12 hours to facilitate the transfer of more than 50 homeless residents of 1st Step to Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Athens for the weekend due to inclement weather. This exemplary act of kindness demonstrated genuine care and concern for the well-being of others. The commendable support extended by Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Athens to both the staff and residents of 1st Step Inc. reflects a deep sense of compassion and respect. This thoughtful gesture is truly appreciated by 1st Step Inc., and it exemplifies the positive impact of genuine collaboration and support within the community.
